Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 October 2026
SignWise ("we") is an app for learning American Sign Language, published by Helord Studios. This policy explains what we collect and why. In short: your camera video never leaves your device, and we only store what is needed to keep your account and progress in sync.
Camera
When you practise, SignWise analyses the camera image on your device to locate your hands, upper body and facial expression. Video and images are processed in memory, are never recorded, stored or uploaded, and are not used to identify you.
What we store
- Account: your name, email address and sign-in method (email and password, Sign in with Apple, or Google Sign-In).
- Learning progress: completed lessons, review schedule, XP, streak, daily goal and app settings (such as your dominant hand).
- Feedback you send: the message you write and, if relevant, the sign and score it refers to. If you use the contact form on our website, we also store the email address you give us so we can reply.
We do not sell your data, show ads, or use third-party tracking.
Service providers
Accounts and progress are stored with Google Firebase (Authentication and Realtime Database, EU region). Sign videos and reference data are served from Firebase Hosting.
Retention and deletion
Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time in the app under Me → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
Children
SignWise is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Your rights
You can access, correct or delete your data in the app, or contact us to exercise any right you have under applicable law (including the GDPR).
Contact
Questions or requests: use the contact form, or Me → Send feedback in the app.

Sign videos are from the WLASL dataset (Li et al., "Word-level Deep Sign Language Recognition from Video", WACV 2020).
